RIFT
Info teaser
As will be revealed in RIFT, Earth has been decimated by an amoebic plague. Oddly enough, all terrestrial life was wiped out (humans included), except for insects and certain species of birds. And those birds are now the apex predators.
Here we see Max Gunnarsson escaping a friendly cassowary welcoming party.
But SK, you might ask, Max landed in Lima, Perú. How is a cassowary there? They aren’t indigenous to South America.
Simple, really. There were three mated pairs, in three separate enclosures, in the Parque de las Leyendas Zoo, in the San Miguel district of Lima. They were considered so dangerous that they were provided their own food and water supply, as well as air filtration. Once the amoebic plague had run its course and gone dormant (actually within a couple weeks), the three shocks escaped their confines and reproduced in the city, eating insects and vegetation, as well as other birds.
Now, let’s track back to terrestrial.
Saline waters were unaffected by the amoeba, as deuterium would destroy it on contact.
So, there are no more fresh-water trout, but sharks continue to be large, and quite toothy.
